For the May 2016 DC ANS dinner meeting, Current ANS President, Gene Grecheck, and Vice President – President Elect, Andy Klein, will share their opinions about the path ahead for nuclear energy in the United States and the World. Topics will include how the ANS can, and should, be helpful with this very important matter facing our nation. There will be ample opportunity for the audience to ask questions. Eugene S. Grecheck is a seasoned executive with 40 years of experience in commercial nuclear power generation, including operations, engineering, licensing, training, security and emergency planning, new plant development, and nuclear safety review.
Grecheck’s career spanned over 38 years with Dominion Resources, where he held positions including nuclear station manager, site vice president at two different stations, and vice president over nuclear services and nuclear engineering. For over a decade, he led Dominion’s new plant development activities, including cooperative agreements with the DOE on NP2010, and submittal of applications for an Early Site Permit and a Combined Operating License for the proposed North Anna Unit 3.
Grecheck is a native of Schenectady, N.Y. He received a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He earned an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MBA Upgrade from Syracuse University. He also completed The Executive Program at the Darden Graduate School of the University of Virginia, as well as the Senior Plant Management Course conducted by INPO. He was licensed by the USNRC as a Senior Reactor Operator.
He was chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Executive Task Force on new plants and a member of the NEI Task Force on radiation protection, as well as vice chair of the Electric Power Research Institute Advanced Nuclear Plant Steering Committee and member of the Nuclear Power Council. He currently serves on the Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering Advisory Board for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and was a representative for the United States on the Gen IV International Forum.

Dr. Klein is a Professor in the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering at Oregon State University and serves on the Board of Directors for the American Nuclear Society. He has been a member of the faculty at Oregon State University since 1985.
He was on loan from Oregon State University to the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) as Director of Educational Partnerships and served as a member of the Leadership-Management Team at INL from March 2005 to September 2009. During that time, he also held an appointment as a visiting professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Dr. Klein’s research areas include nuclear energy policy, nuclear energy systems design and analysis, radiation shielding, nuclear nonproliferation, safeguards and security, and space and fusion energy systems. He has authored more than 125 technical publications and is the editor for the international ANS publication Nuclear Technology.
He received a B.S. in nuclear engineering from Pennsylvania State University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. Klein has been a member of the American Nuclear Society since 1984 and active in the Aerospace Nuclear Science & Technology Division as well as the Education, Training & Workforce Development Division. He currently is a member of the National Nuclear Accrediting Board for the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations and the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Nuclear Studies.

NOTE:
All attendees should enter the One White Flint North building (corner of Rockville Pike and Marinelli Road) and report to the guard desk in the lobby. This is the only entrance. Attendees should bring photo identification such as a state issued drivers’ license for registration with NRC security. Once registered, attendees will be directed to the NRC Auditorium.
Please arrive as close to 5:30 PM as possible to allow time to go through NRC security.
